We're not just fitness models up in here!
This year's goal was an adventure race! I had such a great time running this 5km Warrior Dash obstacle race up in Barrie on Sunday, July 22. A week after turning 30 it was great to tackle something outside of my comfort zone. I'm a bit of a girly girl and don't really enjoy getting down and dirty unless it's a great sweaty workout in the gym. So for me to swim through a mud puddle without a second thought at the end of the race was pretty big for me. Please note my teammates basically walked the puddle while I breast stroked through it! Please see the photo at the bottom for proof!
I've been training every Monday for the past few months with my friends running a 5k in anticipation for the length of the race. The one thing I regret not doing more of was hill running. It felt like it was never ending hills today and in the top heat of the day at 12 noon we definitely had to walk most of them as they were just too much for our little hearts. The goal of this race was completion. I've introduced my run teamates in a previous post. Krysten is my hero. If you want to read more about her story please visit her blog at darwinianfail.blogspot.com. The long and short of it. This incredible woman has a pacemaker and just had a double masectomy this past year. She's allowed me to help with her training which has including upper body training. When she climbed an angled wall with a rope I was soooo proud. Jess was a super speed bunny on the hills and was my motivation to keep going. Her YouTube videos are a joy to watch and you get to know her more over at her channel! We support each other in different ways and running this race with them meant the world to me!
We thought we'd finish around the hour mark and we were right and beat it by a smidge at 54.59 mins. We conquered every obstacle including wall jumps, crawling under logs, barbed wire, walking across balance beams, climbing cargo nets, wooden structures, slip and slides, roped walls, fires and a mud pit! I can't wait to make this an annual event with my ladies! Friend fitness makes me happy. Maybe next year we'll be back with a time goal or age group goal :) Who knows?!
